Recycling.co.uk Set-off in the Tour of Britain - Newton 9th in Prologue

09.09.07: recycling.co.uk's multiple World Champion Chris Newton rode a blistering Prologue Time Trial to start the 2007 Tour of Britain in Crystal Palace, London today. Chris rode to a time of 2 minutes and 33 seconds for the 2.5km course just 5 seconds behind stage winner Mark Cavendish (T- Mobile) to finish in 9th, the highest home based professional in the race.

The recycling.co.uk Pro Cycling Team start the first road stage tomorrow, 138.9km from Reading to Southampton. The Tour of Britain is the UK's biggest free sporting event. This is the 4th edition of race in its modern format and the 102 riders taking part will ride 950km in 7 stages as they make their way to the final stage in Glasgow next Saturday.

Chris Newton is joined by team mates Rob Partridge, who finished 38th last year and is riding his 4th Tour of Britain, 19-year-old Simon Holt, who was 4th in the National Circuit Race Championship this year, 19-year-old Tom Diggle, who won the Brendan Campbell Memorial Race in Ireland this year, and brothers Ryan and Adam Bonser, who are 23 and 18 years-old respectively.

Recycling.co.uk will be able to test their ability against some of the world's best team's, including stars of the recent Tour de France in the shape of T-Mobile's Mark Cavendish and their stage winner and Yellow Jersey wearer Linus Gerdemann, together with Barloworld's stage winner Robbie Hunter and British rider Geraint Thomas.
