Tour of Ireland Final Day

Adam Bonser

26.08.07: Everybody expected a processional day on the final stage back to Dublin. The recycling.co.uk team didn't expect the fast and furious pace that was set. The race backed by F‡ilte Ireland was certainly not over with riders attacking early on. A slight tail wind ensured the pace was very high which didn't help young Adam Bonser who punctured when the peloton was doing 40 to 45 miles an hour. Adam had a hard chase to get back on and as team manager John Herety said "Adam had to ride through the convoy reaching speeds of 50 mph to stand a chance of getting back on". Adam has obviously learned a lot during his first senior season and the experience he has gained in the British Premier Calendar series served him well. "Using the convoy and the cars as shelter is an art and a skill that has to be mastered" said John Herety. The recycling.co.uk team practice sessions at training camps and the advice given to the first year senior riders has clearly paid off in this development year for the young men.

Interesting comments were made to John by some other continental team managers who said they had never seen such a young looking team ride so safely and skilfully in the peloton. High praise indeed and a credit to the educational programme set out by the experienced team manager.

The team now come home to rest for a few days before preparing for the upcoming Tour of Britain.

Big thanks must go to the organisers and helpers that made this event such a spectacular success with good racing with special thanks to Fáilte Ireland the Irish tourist board.
