Cinturon Tour - Majorca - Day 3
21.04.07: Not much excitement today. Well not in the race it seems. The major concern for team manager John Herety was whether he would get through the day in the team car. He seems to have picked up the sickness that caused Tom Diggle to pull out of the event. Enough on that subject I think.
I made a reference yesterday to ‘live the dream’. This of course is the favourite saying of Dean Downing who is riding for the Rapha team in the UK. Thanks ‘Deano’. To the young recycling.co.uk boys this is exactly what they are doing - living their dream. Imagine racing in the sunshine on the beautiful island of Majorca. Riding the best equipment available and being managed and supported by John Herety, Sarah Heal and Sandy Gilchrist. All of who are very experienced and professional. With regards to equipment the guys are still on their ‘training bikes’. These Pinarello F3:13 bikes are the early season choice of the suppliers Yellow Ltd. The F3:13 is the cheaper version of the superb F4:13 that were used by the team last year. Clearly the ‘cheaper’ version is a pretty good bit of kit too. Anyway the lads get their new ‘race’ bikes next week in readiness for the next round of the British Premier Calendar Series.
The race today was a pretty fast but uneventful day for the team. The riders spent all day in the peloton and were still there for the final bunch sprint. As this is the first time the younger boys had participated in such a large sprint they were told to take it cautiously.
Tom is recovering nicely and will be back on his bike tomorrow (Saturday) for a gentle ride. Hopefully John will have recovered from his sickness and enjoy another day guiding the team from race organisation supplied team car.
